Synopsis of Ali Azmat & Rahat:
Biography: Pakistani rock symbol Ali Azmat began his career as lead singer for the iconic Pakistani rock band Junoon (dubbed the U2 of South Asia by the New York Times). A solo artist since 2003, he is now reinventing the South Asian music scene, exciting audience everywhere with his fervent and poetic synthesis of east/west musical traditions.
Born in Pakistan, Ali began singing professionally when he was very young. He was only seventeen when, his original song, “Dosti,” propelled him to stardom. Dosti means “friendship,” and in 1999 Junoon was invited to India by the Indian Prime Minister, to sing “Dosti” as a signal of peace between India and Pakistan. In October 2001, he sang it again, this time on the floor of the United Nations General Assembly with an Indian band. The New York, Times and the Village Voice among others wrote rave reviews of his performance, the only rock concert ever held at the UN.
 
 
 
Rahat Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan he was born. 1974 in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan is a musician, and principally, a singer of Qawwali, a devotional music of the Sufis. He is the nephew of Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. In addition to Qawwali, he also performs ghazals and other light music. He has toured at length and performed in Pakistan, India and all around the world. He was born in 1974 in Faisalabad, Punjab, Pakistan into a family of customary musicians. The son of Farrukh Fateh Ali Khan, Rahat was trained by his uncle Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in the art of classical music and Qawwali. Under the auspices of his uncle, his first public performance was at the age of eleven.

In a secondary role with his uncle Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, working in teamwork with Eddie Vedder, of the American rock band, Pearl Jam, Rahat contributed to the soundtrack of the 1995 Hollywood film Dead Man Walking.

In 2002, he worked on the soundtrack of Four Feathers in collaboration with the American composer of orchestral and film music, James Horner.

Also in 2002, Rahat guested with The Derek Trucks Band on the song “Maki Madni” for Trucks’ album, Joyful Noise.
