Movie Review: ‘Love Aaj Kal’ is Imtiaz Ali’s latest directorial project and it has been produced by Dinesh Vijan and Saif Ali Khan. The story of the film based on the concept of love and as it was in the past (kal) and as it is in the present (aaj). The starring of the film includes Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, Neetu Singh, Rishi Kapoor, Rahul Khanna and Vir Das. Pritam has been composed the music for the movie and Irshad Kamil provided the lyrics for the film. The film has been released on 31st July 2009 under the recognition of ‘Eros International’.
The word 'Aaj' represents part of 'Love Aaj Kal' and based in the year 2009 and takes us across the cities of London, San Francisco and Delhi. We get a glance into the life of Jai (Saif Ali Khan) and Meera (Deepika Padukone). They make a modern couple, living in London. They love each other and are leading a happy life. But one day, they find their life being drawn different directions. Being a couple who believes in not to tying each other down, they make a decision to go with the flow and let things take their course. They live life by realistic rules - Love Aaj!
Now, let us come down to the word 'Kal' that represents past the other part of 'Love Aaj Kal'. We go back to the year 1965 and see a love story based in Delhi and Kolkata (then Calcutta). Here, we have Veer Singh (Saif Ali Khan), a guy who falls headlong in love with Harleen Kaur (Deepika Padukone). Not much time later, he is seen standing under a tree and swearing that in this life as well as all the afterlives that he has, Harleen will be his wife. He covers a journey of 1000 km by train, just to have a glimpse of Harleen, standing under her balcony. This is Love Kal!
Now, the 'Kal' of love meets the 'Aaj' and we get to see two types of love, each beautiful in its own right. While Veer is not able to understand the 'practical' approach of Jai, the latter cannot understand how Veer can be so emotional and completely guided by heart. Through their love stories, we come to realize that though the process of relationship changes with the changing time, the basic essence remains the same. As the distance between people grows, the fondness grows as well. With the widening gap, new bridges form automatically!
